Wow! – Just about an hour ago I received the good news: I will be travelling in Taiwan from the 12th to 25th of August!
In this blog I will share my experiences in Taiwan. I am sure this will be an amazing journey for me! I have only once been to Asia before. And that was more than 10 years ago, I can’t even remember it properly. My travels are part of the Say Taiwan Homestay. In April this year my parents found a short article about this homestay in the local German newspaper. When they showed to me I was immediately excited: 250 people from 100 countries can travel to Taiwan in August.
I then had to apply rather quickly. The submission period was nearly over. In order to apply, one had to answer lots of questions and write short texts. The most time-consuming part of the application was the self-introduction video. It was not mandatory to make a video, but I thought my chances would surely be better with a video. So I spend one very long evening working on my application. Since then (mid-April) I have been waiting for the results. At the beginning I had no idea how my chances were and didn’t hope too much. But then I received two e-mails: Firstly I was asked if my video can be used for media in Taiwan – yes, sure! And then in the second e-mail they asked me to confirm that I can really take part at the event. There they congratulated me on being in the preliminary selection. 😮 That was when I really started hoping. And every day I got more excited. In the last days I’ve been checking e-mails every morning before breakfast. German time is 6 hours behind the time in Taiwan. So chances are good to get news when waking up here. Today I finally received the news: My name is on the list of participants!!! I am so relieved! 🙂
On the facebook page of Say Taiwan many applicants waited together for the results. It is nice to read all the happy comments of people who got accepted. I can’t wait to meet people from all over the world in Taiwan!
While waiting for the results I found a very nice link on facebook: Beautiful images of Taiwan (thanks for posting it Selom!):
And here is a video showing some of the participants (not me ^^):
My mother found a very interesting blog which will definitely be useful for information about Taiwan: a hungry girl’s guide to taipei
Don’t forget to return to this blog in August when it will be full of pictures and stories of my travels! 😉
